Mt. Matutum, one of the remaining lush forests of South Cotabato,Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Gen. Santos City (SOCSKSARGEN), a premier watershed and landmark is in a state of hell as forest fire continue to raze tens of hectares a day since the onslaught of El Nino.

Amyak Maleh mountaineers,  a local mountaineering group here, has identified a total of 10 spots razed by fire at Mt. Matutum and that is for Brgy. Kablon only. Maulvi Bajunaid, the mountaineer's president reported an average of 4 hectares per spot razed by fire, a number of indigenous tree species were burn, he said.

Linan Barangay Chair Reynaldo Alburo also reported of grass fire within Mt. Matutum Protected Area in his barangay. Amyak Maleh mountaineers has estimated a total of 50 hectares more or less of forest within Sitio Glandang Kablon were damaged by forest fire.
