Tarsier named as ‘Bagong Silang’
The Tarsier capture by native farm workers in Linan was christened “bagong silang” before it was released back to its’ habitat atop ‘Tablao’ hill.
The team commissioned by Tupi Mayor Valentin G. Mariano, Jr., to release the captured wildlife back to its habitat decided to christened the tarsier ‘bagong silang’ to give the primate a name and a new hope.
The group inserted a blue plastic ring on the primer’s right foot as an identification that it’s ‘bagong silang’ if ever the same would be captured again.
Farm worker Julie Malida, 24, captured the tarsier and the three owlets on January 21, 2010 at Tablao hill in Linan. The hill is within Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape (MMPL).
The team was composed of Rolly T. Visaya of Tupi Mayor’s Office, Brgy. Councilor Norberto Tumbiga of Linan, Alfonso Laco of Purok Bagong Silan in Linan, William Santillan and Eugenio Sanico of Tupi Local Government along with some community members.
