Some forty informal settlers residing along the riverbanks in Tucalabong, Cr. Rubber will be relocated in June at the 2.6 has. lot bought by Tupi government in Lower Poblacion, this municipality.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) chaired by Tupi Mayor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr., started preparing the area for the informal settlers. "We need to relocate those settlers occupying near the river banks to avoid any untoward incidents at the onslaught of the rainy season." Tamayo said.
The mayor has ordered the Tupi engineering office to prepare the relocation site that could accommodate 288 houses. He also appealed to all Tupinians, specially the municipal employees to help build houses for the settlers during weekends.
"Let us help build home for our homeless townmates" Tamayo said adding "by sharing your time and free labor would mean a lot to the less fortunate" The housing facility will be provided free to the informal settlers, they can live there freely, however, they can not own the house. The system of not giving the house is part of the local government safety measure to avoid the selling of their house and lot to the moneyed one. Violating the same would loss their rights over the local government's housing facility.
MDRRMC has the plan of relocating informal settlers in the municipality, specially those occupying the road right of way within Barangay Poblacion.
